Marriage Overseas
« on: Friday 16 May 08 20:23 BST (UK) »
Is this the right place to ask about military marriages , births and deaths overseas ?
Is it the sort of thing that I could ask if anyone can do a look up ?

I'm looking fo the marriage of Peter Waters and Jane ? .

The first child I have a record for is Lina Waters , born Rangoon  1867 , so her parents must have married somewhen before that .
There may have been a son , Warwick , born ca.1870 .

Peter Waters would probably have been a Bandmaster .

Any advice welcomed .

hi - just peeping, but also on the hunt for info about a military (Royal Artillery) marriage which probably took place in Ireland around 1840 before the couple, with child, were posted to West Indies. Anyone know how I can get any info so I can apply for a certificate please?

You can try familysearch.org .
I don't know whether Irish births and marriages for the Military would appear on the Overseas Register .
If they were registered in Ireland then you may find church registers for any denomination except the Church of Ireland . If you are lucky , you might find some C of I documents .
There won't be any certificates at all for 1840 .

I found the date of an army marriage overseas [in Nova Scotia] on my g grandfather's army record at Kew.  I think findmypast do have the overseas register.

Do you know what regiment he was in? You also need to know the date of discharge to be able to look up the army record at Kew.

Hello Josey .
Which "bit" of the Army record listed the marriage ?
Does it list the children as well ?

I found children born in the 1820's  -  one in England , 3 in India , on familysearch . I haven't found a marriage (probably in Church of Ireland) .

But one of these children was Peter Waters , who also joined the army , and I haven't been able to find his marriage or the births of most of his children .

It was on the last page 'Military History Sheet', with names of wife & children.

I found a Peter Waters marrying on findmypast in the GRO Consular Marriages for 1836-37 page number almost illegible but is three digits ending in 95 [so is x95].
