Many thanks, Michael!  I have discovered a long lost third cousin who lives locally and knows the place well!  Hopefully we'll tie it up soon.  Thanks again. Wendy

Hi Cav and Kavva I`ve just found this site and came across this post on Roots regarding Elizabeth Billany. Elizabeth Billany and Charles Coombs were my husbands Great Great Grandparents. His Great Grandfather was Charles Coombs born 1867 in Cowpen. I noticed you mentioned that Charles and Elizabeth Coombs together with their Son in law Robert Dalrymple were buried in the holy seplicar in Ashington and wondered if you had found them as my husband went in search and has found them so can help either of you out with a photo of the headstone. I wondered how far you had come in your search with Elizabeth Billany as there dosen`t appear to be any birth records. I have the parents and siblings of Charles Coombs if you would like any info. Susan

Hi Susan, good to hear from you. Charles Coombs was my great great grandad as well. His daughter Mary Jane coombs married Robert Dalrymple, and my grandma was their daughter Anna Bell Dalrymple. All I know of this Charles was that he was born in Andover in Hampshire. I have a photo of the gravestone thank you.

Hi Thankyou for your reply. A distant relative of my husband is studying geneology and he gave me some information about Charles Coombs born 1820 in Andover Hampshire. His fathers name was William Coombs born 1887 in Minstead, Hamphire, his mothers name Elizabeth(maiden name unknown) born 1791 in Minstead Hampshire. His siblings were Jobe Coombs born 1831 in Dorset, Thomas Coombs born 1834 in Dorset and Bridget Coombs born 1837 in Dorset.

All I have concerning Elizabeth Billany is what you have probably pieced together yourself. I think Robert and Margaret Billaney were her parents. Robert was born in Whittingham and Margaret in Longframlington both from around the same area as Elizabeth. I dont know if you came across the 1851 census where Roberts name seems to have been mispelt and named Bellang, Mary which probably should have said Margaret together with William and James who were both born in Felton which Elizabeth date and place of birth would fit nicely. However there is also an Eliza Bellang born 1845 but I wonder if she is a grand daughter and not a daughter. What is even more unusual is on the 1851 census with Charles and Elizabeth Coombs a niece is staying with them called Elizabeth Bellang aged 7. I feel like I`m going round in circles with Elizabeth Billany lol ::) Susan
