BELLANEY
« on: Friday 16 May 08 09:38 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out where to look for the parents of Elizabeth Bellaney. I have her on the 1841 census as Billaney, age 13, and it looks like she is working on a farm or in service at Bockenfield near Morpeth. I know she was born at Felton as she gives this in all the censuses, but there are no other Bellaney's Billaneys that I can see. Can another pair of eyes help please? Or point me in the right direction.
In the 51, 61, 71, 81 and 91 census she is married to Charles Coombs and lives in Blyth and then Ashington.
I would love to know who her parents were and any siblings.
Thankyou

I have found her marriage reference on freebmd. If you got the certificate it should have her father on.

Also, have a look again at the census records.

In 1841 there's a Billany family in Cowpen, Horton, father Robert, mother Margaret. They are still in Cowpen in 1851 as Bellany (Robert & Mary), and again in 1861 (just as Margaret).

Some of the names in the family reflect those of Elizabeth's children - Robert, Margaret, William and Ralph (there's a Ralph listed in 1841).

Given the locality, it might be the right people.

Hi! I'm new to this so please bear with me. I see that you have been looking for Elizabeth Bellaney and have already found some answers. I, too, am looking for her with interest and curiosity as I have been researching the Coombes family and know that Elizabeth was the mother of Robert Coombes, my great grandfather. Robert was, I believe, the eldest son of Charles and Elizabeth Coombes. Robert went to Australia in 1879 but is found, in the 1871 census, living in Blyth with his grandmother, Margaret.  Unfortunately, I know nothing about Elizabeth other than the information given in the 1841 census. Perhaps you could help me out?  Thanks, in anticipation

:) Hi Kagga, good to hear from you and it looks like we are related as my great grandmother was Mary Jane Coombs, your great grandfathers sister.
I am still looking for Elizabeth Bellaney too.I will have to get that marriage cert to find out for sure who her parents were. She died on May 20th 1889 aged 64, and her husband Charles Coombs died 13th September 1904 aged 84.Charles was born in Andover, Hampshire. They are buried in the churchyard of the Parish church of the Holy Sepulchre, in Ashington, Northumberland, along with their son in law Robert Dalrymple (my great grandfather) husband of Mary Jane Coombs. As yet I don't know when or where Mary Jane (your great grandfathers sister -my great grandmother) died but i presume she will be in the same grave, though I will have to look into that. They have quite a large headstone.

Hi cavvytri !  It's good to hear from you!  Yes, we do have the same relations. I have Mary Jane on my family tree and I know, from the census, that she married the Dalrymples. I'm delighted that you tell me the name of the churchyard where she is buried as I was about to search Ashington cemeteries near to Ninth Row where Charles last lived in order to 'tidy-up' some of my loose ends! I've been tracing the Coombes for some time now and am in contact with the Australian side of Robert's family. Now I know where I am with that strand I thought I'd find out more about Elizabeth and Charles. I'm having problems finding out more about Charles' past. I know he was born in Andover, Hampshire and that his father was called William. His father's occupation was husbandman. However, I can't get any further than that. We do need that marriage cert. or a visit to Hampshire! Are you getting the cert. or shall I? Is there anything I can help you with at all?  Are you local or have you moved away from Northumberland?

Hi cavvytri !  As I said, I'm new to this and am not sure sure what you mean when you say you'll PM your email address but I'm sure it will be handy. I went to the Holy Sepulchre cemetery yesterday but without success....I think I'll need your help! Looking forward to hearing from you.
