 hi lyla, could you let me no anything about the mary mcgowan who was married to collins in 1867, i had a g, aunt who was born 1857 but could never find anything about her, she was born in old monkland to patrick mcgowan and margaret dearin,

Doesnt look promising. The marriage was 25/2/1867 St Johns Church Port Glasgow. Mary McGowan was aged 24, a flax spinner, spinster of Scotts Lane Port Glasgow. Her father was James McGowan, labourer and her mother was Mary. Unfortunately the maiden name was left blank.

Yes I did add a few records to the scotsbmd site but I have so many and so little time these days. Still no luck with my own Collins family.

if you're still out there Lila? i have McGOWAN/McGOUN; am interested from list, as apparently are others, in 1867 marr. wm. COLLINS to mary McGOWAN; also, death 1861 mary COLLINS (McGOUN) paisley.  mine are based Kincardine-by-Doune, 1700's.

Goodness it's been such a long time since I logged in I couldn't remember my passwords. Anyway, Mary Collins 1861 death details:

Mary Collins, housekeeper of Quay Lane? Paisley, widow, died 4/1/1861, aged 61,  parents (no first name) McGown deceased and Margaret McGown deceased, cause dropsy 2 mths, bronchitis 12 mths, registered by daughter Bridget Collins

thank you Lyla.  i'm thinking maybe.  i do have a Margaret; the dates would just about work, but her and husband James are in U.S. in 1775.  they did have children born before and after emigrating, but that says nothing. a big Hmmmmmm!?!
