Many thanks Adam for all the info you're passing onto everyone. Unfortunately all these folks are too late...I can't make a connection from a Simpson-Dixon marriage in 1767.  But you never know when the info might suddenly become useful...

Thanks again,
Gareth

Hi Adam:

I am tracing a Batey family who lived in Leadgate/Medomsley  from about 1845 onwards after moving from Cumberland. Do you have any Batey transcriptions for Lanchester? All spellings may apply (Baty, Beaty, Beatty).

Thanks in advance!

Annie

Hello Fairlane.  Here are two inscriptions for Maddison. They are among the earliest  in the churchyard:-

Here lies the body of George Maddsion of Bridgend, who died March/1758 aged 61

Here lieth the body of Hannah Maddsion, wife of George maddsion, who died March/5/1748/9 aged 42 years. ( looks like they forgot the year that Hannah died)

Hello Adam

Much appreciated - haven't got back quite that far - my Maddison's were in the area 100 years later but I'm slowly working back!
