Davies of Blaenavon
« on: Thursday 15 May 08 08:56 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have old street maps for Blaenavon, Llanover Upper.
I was wondering if Brewery Row, I think this may be name of house and 7 Broad St are one in the same.  This place dates back to 1881.  It is where my G.G. Grandfather David Davies died as stated on death certificate.
Also has anyone out there have family connections to Davies family would like to hear from them.

Hi DMC, not sure how much this helps but as far as I know Broad Street was never named (officially) as Brewery Row. Its been Broad Street since the mid-late 1800's and before that it was named Heol-y-Nant which translates as Brook or Stream Street. But like you said it could be a name of a house but there were lots of Row's back in those days and they were usually street's or row's of houses, to name a few Staffordshire Row, Bunker's Row, Chapel Row, Victoria Row, River Row, Coaltar Row and Engine Row.

Regards
Kate.

Hello Veneita

Sorry, I know you wrote this three months ago, but I've only just seen it.

Yes I have the name Lily Smith (My grandmother).  She died young in Cardiff approx. 1930

Lily's parents came from Ross.  apparently her mother was Spanish

Hope this helps and you can give me names too

Hello,
My great grandmother was ELIZA ROBERTS who was widowed & then married  ........?... DAVIES and she shows up in the 1881 Census as ELIZA DAVIES living at COITY FARM near BLAENAVON with a son THOMAS ROBERTS and his 3 children, Thomas, Eliza & John ROBERTS.
She had children to .....?..... DAVIES, a daughter CATHERINE DAVIES married WILLIAM ROGERS.
Maybe this can help?
Regards.
