Marriage Lookup - John Downer & Mary Pink

Hi all,

I'm trying to find the marriage of John Downer to Mary Pink.  IGI says they married 27 Sep 1827 but i'd prefer to confirm this with another source.

In the 1871 census Mary Pink is listed as being 96 years old, could this be her? (Class: RG10; Piece: 1111; Folio: 37; Page: 10) but the 1841 census (Class: HO107; Piece 1103; Book: 6; Civil Parish: East Wittering; County: Sussex; Enumeration District: 3; Folio: 8; Page: 11; Line: says she was born abt 1811

Any light shed on this would be really appreciated.

Hi Dave

I can confirm the marriage from the Sussex Marriage Index was on 27 Sept 1827 at West Wittering.  He was a bachelor and she was a spinster both of this parish and by banns.

I've only been doing this for about a year, can you tell me is it possible to order copies of parish records just like we do marriage/birth certificates?  If so, how?

Unfortunately no but you can contact the local record office, in this case West Sussex and they may photocopy one for you.

I found John and Mary in 1861
RG09 617 24 9 at East Wittering with daughter Emily born 1846 and grandson Joseph born 1850.  Mary according to this census was born 1808.

In 1891 she was 83 years old

at Havant, Hampshire with her granddaughter Amelia and George Parsons

You have got the right one for 1871 but the Mary Pink is her mother, Mary Downer is living with her, age  63. 

So John died between 1861 and 1871.  And her mother was 96
