Union Workhouse - Kedington
« on: Saturday 10 May 08 21:40 BST (UK) »
My GGG Grandfather lived in Suffolk all his life, the majority in Wickhambrook. He lost quite a lot of his children at quite early ages and after his wife died in 1848, he is shown on the 1851 census as a Pauper Agricultural Labourer, living with another family.

It shouldn't surprise me that he died in a workhouse in 1858 aged 78. He is still shown as being an Agricultural Labourer. He died in the Union Workhouse in Kedington.

Can anyone shed any light where I may find records of the workhouse, inmates lists or information of what life may have been like generally?

Regards

Hi Hepburn

Thanks for replying. The archives records appear to be  mainly fot the early part of last century. I'm really looking for those between 1851 and 1858.

Thanks anyway.

If any records survive, then they will most probably be in the local Suffolk Records Office.

That's because hardly any 19th century records for Risbridge Union have survived. Likewise for the hospital; unless the 1857-1930 baptisms are of any interest  ;)

Hello,

I have just acquired a clipping from the Illustrated London News from 2nd February 1859 and there is a small picture of the Risbridge Union Workhouse at Kedington should you still be interested?
