Interesting to see you Garstonites are having as much difficulty as I was researching this story. I was sure that if a big company like B&M had an orphanage it would be recorded somewhere. I didn't expect to find the children in the orphanage in 1891 as they would probably be too old. What was also puzzling was that the family originally from Flint but living in Widnes 1881 would have been sent to Liverpool when orphaned and sent to work in the match factory.
 ???

Anniej
Is it definitely Widnes they are living in.
My Grandparents were married from Stanley street in Garston in 1911.
On looking at some records they have Garston down as a sub district of Widnes ???

Allan, We are both wrong
It is actualy 4 miles from Vineyard street to North hilly.
Nether the less, Its still a bit far.
has your missus not bumped into the old chap yet.
There used to be a orphanage on Aigburth road.
just after the garage and Grassendale road.
Its a housing estate now.
But that is still a good 2 miles up the road wouldn't you say.

Did you read one of the statements Allan
They say the Loyalist strike breakers
Do you think they meant the Orange order
On the leaflet there is a band named the Orange and green
I took this as meant to be a mixed Paddy orange band
