Hi,

I'm on a wild goose chase and this has lead me to this post. I was just wondering I have a marriage certificate of a thomas harold & margaret durcan in Armagh on 3/1/1818 - the witness's are john durcan and Hoey? Jas.

Just wondering if this James Hoey you are all referring to was maybe a family friend, or just somebody as a witness?

Thanks

Nedda

Hi everyone.

I hope this thread isn't dead. My mother is a Hoey from Drogheda Co. Louth.
Her fathers family used to make rope in a place called the rope walk in Drogheda. If anyone needs more information about the Hoeys I can have a look around the local graveyard where my great grandmother was buried and I can let you's all know what I find.

I too am looking for Hoey.  My second Great Grandmother was Elizabeth Hoey, born May 1829.  No idea who her parents were or where in Ireland she came from.  She married my second Great Grandfather Bernard (Barney) Dougherty.  I would love to find any information on Elizabeth.  I do believe that they were Catholic.

Birth registration started 1864 in Ireland so for someone born around 1830 you need to try and find baptism records but in order to do so you need to have a more exact location than "Ireland."
Start with all possible U.S. records to see if a place or parents are mentioned. This thread indicates Elizabeth Hoey married in N.Y. in 1851- does her marriage list names of parents?

It also says she died in Wisconsin- details from death registration?
That earlier topic was posted in DONEGAL board but you'd need a location to start searching. To avoid duplication it's probably better that you continue with the original topic.
