Hiya Jessy

As you say Anthony isnt listed but looking at the 1851 census his parents were both born Cumberland. On FreeBMD there is an Anthony Sowerby b 2/4 East Ward (Cumbria) ref 25 477 - perhaps he was registered there for some reason?

Also on the IGI is the marriage of William Sowerby to Ann Law 16.1.1825 Cumwhitton Cumberland

Thanks Willow,  Hes a mystery.  Im quite sure that isnt him but interesting about the possible parents I will have to investigate further.  I found him on the 1891 census where he is mentioned as 5 years old - all saints tynemouth northumberland but I wonder if that was just his baptism???? mmmmmm  Back to the drawing board.  Thanks again  Jess

Hiya Jessy

Looking at the 1851 census Margaret is also listed as b Northumberland but there isnt a listing on FreeBMD for a Margaret in Tynemouth but there is 1839 3/4 East Ward 25 402

Maybe Ann had a habit of going home to have her chikdren

OK gone brain dead

His mother is called Mary not Ann - DOUH!

But on the 1841 census they are are in Bongate East Ward Westmoreland - and Margaret is listed so to confirm Marys maiden name it might be worth ordering her certificate

Strangely the older children aren't listed but Thomas was baptised 9.4.1826 Renwick, Cumberland

And it was Mary Law not Ann as I stated earlier

Jessy,

Where did you get " All Saints Tynemouth " from ?

All Saints Parish was one of the four ancient parishes of Newcastle.

Tynemouth Parish was Christ Church

His birth place on censuses is mostly Newcastle. Some early census enumerators recorded "parish of birth" rather than " place of birth" !
