A Stepney Marriage 1853
« on: Monday 05 May 08 10:16 BST (UK) »
I've found a marriage on Free BMD which is between Robert Punt and Selina North, Stepney Reg. Dist. September Quarter 1853.

Due to other clues, I'm fairly certain that the Selina North mentioned is probably one I have been searching for since her birth in Essex in 1827. I lost her after the 1841 census!

It's her fathers name that would be the big giveaway, so I wondered if anybody had any Stepney area marriage indexes that could be checked to trace the marriage certificate.

Thanks a lot!

Diblet  :)

How can you be sure its Robt Punt of the males on that Index page that she actually marries ?

I couldnt see her in 1861 with either of the males surnames - nor with her forename and Pob.

BTW, shes still at home with parents in Wickford in 1851

Hi Diblet

Stepney is a registration district and a parish in it's own right.

If you go here

http://homepages.gold.ac.uk/genuki/MDX/Stepney/outline.htm

you can see all the churches, so to do your look-up would involve looking at all those parishes (some might not have been consecrated in 1853 so that will narrow down the list a little bit) for the 3 months (July, Aug, Sept) in the September quarter.

That will take some time, can you narrow it down at all?

Well, the reason why I think it's Robert Punt she married is that there's a burial entry for a Selina Punt in Wickford age 26. It makes sense that as she died so shortly after her marriage, she would have been buried in her home parish. Also, no other Selinas were baptized in Wickford in 1827/8.

I know getting the marriage cert. from the GRO is an option and I wouldn't hesitate to do that if she were a direct line ancestor, but hoped to cast a net around for lucky strikes first! Sometimes it works.... ;D

Diblet

If you're in no hurry, I'll add this to my LMA look-up list (see top of the London & Middx boards). I am trying to clear the older unanswered posts first though.

Just looked at the Tower Hamlets BMD index and Selina North does match with Robert Punt but you still have to pay to get the date and place details  ::)

That's really kind of you Dawn. No I'm in no hurry and would be very grateful to be added to your list.

I'm out of my usual territory here and can usually be found roaming around on the Essex boards. If you aver have any Essex queries let me know and I'll see if I can help you. I've accumulated hundreds of parish records on fiche over the years. My house is like a sub branch of the Essex Record Office in Dorset!  ::)
