Hi all Heaton Park "Prefabers"
Put your search engines and brains into neutral.
I have found my Eighth Ave, Heaton Park.
It was in the "White Rose Camp" near Middleton Road and Sheepfoot Lane junction, on or near the site of the prefabs. I have it on a map from 1932. It is als listed as "The Huttings" on the map.
Thank you all for your help, I am now going to start a new thread for "The White Rose Camp"
Regards Mike.   8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

I have just found this site by accident so it might be obsolete by nowI too was born in the prefabs  on Erlmere Dr .I lived there until I was 13 in 1962.I too planted those plants at Grand lodge.I believe Prince Phillip was there and  a photo was in the newspaper.I went to school at Parkside with Miss Walton as headmistress. It's a shame we didn't appreciate it at the time having Heaton park as our playground. We moved to Riverdale Rd in Blackley.I remember some of the names mentioned in the chats.Yes the prefabs were very modern in their structure, especially on the inside. We used to have a huge bonfire in the field on Erlmere dr every Nov 5th.My mother worked at Nellie and Herman's shop in the evenings.
The lake was originally a Racetrack for horses when the park was privately owned by Lord Heaton or whatever his name was.The paddling pool had a little beach with it.The old school was by St Margarets.
My brother Ian went there for a year or two ,then to Parkside which opened in 1952.I went there in 1953.
then to Cheetham Secondary.  Jean

Welcome to Rootschat Jean  :D

There is another Prefab thread that has carried on running - I forgot about this one! Link to the longer thread here:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,278711.0.html

where you might find some more familiar names. Hope so!

I started the other thread as an appeal for photos of the Heaton Park prefabs, as my mother lived there until she married in 1954 - she also lived on Erlmere Drive as it happens

first time on this site. Lived at 41 broadmere drive till 1960. Went to Parkside cp school, headmistress Miss Hampson and teachers included mrs Mawdesley, miss Jennings. Names I rememeber, Dewhursts, Fowler, Day, Standerwick, from Broadmere Drive. Also from estate Irene sharples, Brenda thorpe, jonantahan King,Susuan Bell,Lorraine Seddon, to mention a few.
Does anyone know these people? Our name was Makin. Does anyone remember playing in Bluebell Woods, the paddling pool, complete with butties and bottle of water,!!!!! swimming in the lake, but keeping an eye open for the parkkeeper? would love to hear your thoughts.

hi was at parkside cp approx 1949 to 1953. Have photo of last class, teacher Mrs Mawdesley (not on photo) also photos taken in front and back garden of 41 Broadmere, next door called Day who emigrated to Aussie on assisted passage , they were called Pound Pommies!!! Also on drive were Fowlers, Christine Oswald and jean. Few friends and myself did gym displays!!! in back garden, charging a penny, with the money bought some bottles of lemonade. Yes the bonfires were magic, every one rallied round, treacle toffee, baked potatoes, parkin, by the bucket load.
Sure headteacher was miss Hampson, have her autograph and a poem she wrote. Happy days at Parkside cp. Does anyone have any photos? or any other names come to mind. Best wishes.
