The year of 1892 is a problem. No William Hill died in Queensland, Western Australia, Victoria or NSW for 1892.

In South Australia there were the ones I listed.

If we knew William's parents, that may have helped, as the indexes for NSW, Queensland, and Victoria often.....but not always.....give parents' names.

I have checked another disc I have, called the Biographical Index of South Australians. (BISA)Sometimes the information in it gives the place of birth or the ship on which they arrived and when.......none of the William Hills I listed for South Australia could be theone you are looking for.

The William who died 1st June 1891 I have found in BISA......and his wife was Dina and he arrived by 1868......  :-\

.......dee

P.S.  There are some indexes.....but nothing comprehensive and unless after 1890 when FindMyPast has the passenger lists, it is hit and miss unless you scan fiche at libraries that have them.......

Often passengers were simply listed W Hill or even Mr Hill.

Sometimes death certificates give how long in Australia.....but that is only as accurate as the person giving the information knows.......
Steeles, Burton, Garrod (Norfolk), Clarke, Tomblin (Rutland)
Bauer (London, France), Blades, Parker (Surrey)
Edwards, Coles, Smith, Nunley, Craddock, York, & Linnell (Northants) )
Ehmcke, Deimel, Appelkamp (Germany)
Watts (Somerset, Wiltshire) Selway, Churchill, & Chappell (Somerset)
Redwood (Devon, Essex) Button, Archer, Leach (Cambridgeshire)

Thank you Dee for your continued information.  :)

William's parents were George and Maria.

William could only have been over in the 11 years between the census and his death.

I can not find Ruth or Children after 1881 although there is a possible Alice as a servant.

Thanks again.

Sandy

Sandy, I have rechecked death indexes using the parents names, but no joy......

I have rechecked BISA...no joy again.....

How old was Ruth in 1881? Is there a possibility they could have had a child in Australia?

I'll try checking what indexes I can for that time period tomorrow....but they are extremely limited. Eyes are now too tired, so I am off to bed......  :D

Hi Dee

Hope you had a good night's sleep.  :)

Ruth is noted as being 37 so not old.

Thanks for all your help.

OK Sandy,

I'll add that to my list of things to do today.....check to see if there is a birth to a William and a Ruth in the right time frame in those indexes that show parent's names.......

In South Australia there are the deaths of the following William HILLS between 1890 and 1894…..

William HILL aged 61 of Mile End died 1st June 1891 at West Park Lands
Ref = Ade 194/14

Could 1891 be 1892 Only a year out.
How long would it take to get a message reporting the death.

Just thinking out loud

Carole, that's what I thought for a while but I am pretty sure I have found that William Hill with his family here well before the 1881 Census.......  :-\

Couldn't find any births in South Aust, NSW, Victoria or Western Australia to a William (Hill) and Ruth.......

I could have a look at the death certificate of that William who died 1st June 1891 at SAGHS.....but it probably won't tell me much more than the index does.....and goodness knows when I am going to get to SAGHS...could be months away......  :-\
