Marrige St Peter's Leeds 1844 - THACKRAY/WEST
« on: Friday 02 May 08 11:01 BST (UK) »
I would be very grateful for the details of the following marriage if SKS happens to have access to the marriage register for St Peter's Leeds.

The couple are Thomas THACKRAY and Hannah WEST and it took place between January and March 1844.

Father's names and the couple's abode would be really useful.

Any help much appreciate.

Hi

I think I have found your Thomas Thackray for you.

I have found the wedding of Thomas to Hannah West at \St Peters Church in 1844
I then found them living at Long Marston which is in the Tadcaster district of Yorkshire on the 1851 census.
They have 4 chldren who are
Elizabeth aged 6
John aged 4
Joseph aged 3
and Tom aged 10months.

Then on the 1881 census I found Thomas a widower with three children still at home in Long Marston.
Joseph who is now 32 and a Agricultural Labourer

also now 2 new children
Mary aged 21
Frederick aged 13

Makes you wonder if Hannah had Frederick at the age of about 47 she could have died in childbirth as it was a little old for childbirth in those days.

I cannot find the parents of either Thomas or Hannah sorry, but hope this is OK for you.

Pinetree,  either way you will need the marriage certificate to obtain the details you are after from GRO or YorkshireBMD.  They cost £7

Marriage
Thomas Thackray / Hannah West
March 1844 / Leeds
Vol No: 23 / Page No: 351

or:

http://www.yorkshirebmd.info/cgi/pma.cgi?date=1844&county=yorkshire&reference=LS%3ACE46%2F16%2F185&file=T&pos=5528&surname=WEST&forename=Hannah&area=LS

Dee

Note:  I have had a look for them on 1841 Census, but there are too many people with the same name and same ages.  If you have any more info I will do a Census look up for you.

Dear Sandymc47 and Dee,

Thank you both for your help with my query.  The Long Marston family are definitely mine.  I wasn't sure if the Leeds marriage would be the right one as all my other Long Marston couples married in LM.

Having "invested" in a number of certificates that have turned out to be wrong over the years I was hoping to find some further evidence that this was the right couple before buying this one.

Thank you again for your interest.  ;)

Kind regards

Pinetree

Hi Pinetree
Might be a little late. Just come across this. Hannah’s father was James West and Thomas’s father John Thackray. There was also an Abraham Thackray as a witness and a David Rider.
Thomas is my 3rd great grand uncle

Stevie,

Apologies for the late reply.

Thank you for those details, the Thackrays are part of my husband’s family so you are probably related somewhere along the line.

Thanks again
