Hi Scully

I've found George's birth registration:

10 July 1856, Fullerton Street, Irvine.

George Gordon, illegitimate. Mother - Jane Gordon, muslin sewer.

I've so far not been able to locate a marriage for Charles and Jane. It might have been a common law one.

A possible  for Jane Gordon, given that there is an Agnes Gordon with them in 1861 and one of the sons was named Gordon:

Bpt. Dundonald, 15 May 1836 - Jane Mitchell Gordon, parents - David Gordon and Agnes Mathie. (IGI)

The only Margaret Greenwood that I've found so far in Ayrshire  was b. 5th June 1860 (Ayr)  - parents- John Greenwood and Mary Gordon.

I'm wondering if this Mary was a relative of Jane's.

Hi Gadget,

I've been following this thread and thought I'd have a look for Gordon/Currie births in Irvine. However, some of the births seem to imply Jane's maiden name was Morrison. :-\ I've only included the children from the 1871 census just now:

George Gordon, born 10th July 1856 Irvine - mother Jane Gordon
William Currie, born 7th August 1860 Irvine - parents Charles C and Jane Gordon
David Currie, born 29th November 1862 Irvine - parents Charles C and Jane Morrison
[Agnes]
Janet Currie, born 31st December 1866 Irvine - parents Charles C and Jane Morrison
Jane Currie, born 10th February 1869 Irvine - parents Charles C and Jane Morrison

In addition to these, Charles and Jane also had John Greenwood Currie in 1871. That seems to confirm the two families knew/were related to each other.

Hi Hume

This family is confusing so I'll put up my work anyway  ::) ;D

1881

Wallacetown

Jane, 43, b. Kirkoswald
David, 19, painter, b. Irvine
Agnes, 17, wool spinner, b. Irvine
Janet, 16, wool spinner, b. Irvine
Jane, 11, b. Irvine
John G, 6, b.Ayr
Sarah, 3, b. Ayr
John Greenwood, brother, 19, baker, b. Ayr
Annie Greenwood, visitor, 16, b. Ayr

From SP
-
Parent - Jane Gordon:
George Gordon (?Currrie) - b. 10 July 1856

from IGI
-
Parents - Charles Currie and Jane Gordon:
Charles Currie - b. Jun 1858, Irvine
William Currie - 7 Aug 1860, Irvine

Parents - Charles Currie and Jane Morrison:
David Currie - 29 Sept 1862, Irvine
Elizabeth Currie - 23 Dec 1864, Irvine  - is this Agnes?
Janet Currie - 31 Dec 1866, Irvine
Jane Currie - 10 February 1869, Irvine
John Greenwood Currie - 7 April 1871, Irvine
James Johnston Currie - 13 June 1873, Irvine

as yet, I can't find Sarah b.c. 1878, Ayr

I can't find marriage for Charles and Jane Morrison either or a death for Jane Gordon.

Anything else that you can come up with. I've been looking for a death for Charles but so far nada

IGI kept going down  :(

I think that Jane Gordon and Jane Morrison are two separate people - 1861 b. Dailly circa 1839. 1871 b. Kirkoswald circa 1837.

Hi Gadget,

I was just about to post a Charles Currie death in 1897 Ayr, aged 55. It looks like Jane died in 1904, but not sure if her age is recorded on the SP index. :-\ She's listed with maiden name Gordon.
