Well done!

So the Mary Gordon, mother of Margaret Greenwood, b. 1860 was Jane's sister and George Currie's aunt  ;D ;D ;D

Now, can you work in the Morrison bit!

Just a thought

Jane and Mary were the daughter's of Agnes Colquhoun m.s.  Gordon.

could it be that Mary's father was a Ralston and Jane's father was a Morrison and that's why we're faced with all these names  ???

I'll leave you to ponder on't  :-\

Had a look at the John Greenwood/Mary Ralston marriage in 1859 Ayr. Marriage certificate doesn't give Mary's parents, John gives his as John G/Mary Ralston! How confusing is that? :-\

I'm starting to think the same as you, Gadget - Morrison and Ralston were the girls' father's names and they've used them (on and off!) throughout their lives. The Colquhoun name comes after, Agnes Gordon married James C in Ayr in 1870.

Well, at least it's looking that way! :-\

Yeah - I saw that in the Greenwood/Ralston  - bit of a let down, I thought   :(

I might try chasing up Agnes in the 1841/51 if I get time  :-\

Unless, of course, you find her this afternoon  :)

Found her christening, using the parents' names:

Agnes Gordon, bapt. 6th January 1799 Maybole - parents George G and Janet Kennedy

So it looks like the entry you found for 1851 is correct:

Fullarton Street, Dundonald, Ayrshire
Agnes Gordon, head, wid., 48, washerwoman, b. Maybole
Janet ", dau., -, 8, -, b. Dundonald

It got our heads spinning, Scully   ;D

I think we got there in the end but it's a canny lot that you have there. I think, if I were you, I'd print off the thread and work it out on paper.

Do send me your e-mail for I have some certificates   :D
