Mcgee John brn 1846 moved Ireland to carluke
« on: Thursday 01 May 08 16:51 BST (UK) »
Looking to tie up family tree from across the irish sea.  I have certificates and documentation that shows the following:

my gg grandad was John Mcgee born Ireland 1846 - moved to scotland ?  first spotted on the 1861 Census living with Mcgarry family then onto the 1871 census living with his family in Mayfield Row, Carluke.  He married a lady from Biggar, Scotland called Jane Kidd.

Their marraige cert said that his parents were Terence Mcgee and Mary Mcgee (nee Flagherty).  My family have often suggested we were from Donegal however a search in this area has conclusively said there is no record of Terence or the birth of John in this area.

Looking for any heads up on where abouts of johns birth in Ireland - his dad Terence according to the wedding cert was a bottle work labourer (incase that helps anyone) and his mum was a domestic servant both were dead at the time of marraige.

Appreciate it if anyone has any info!!!

General birth records for Ireland start in 1864.   Church records a the best way to get info on Ireland before that. there are little cencus records before 1901.

Probably not much help, but Terence McGee seems to be a popular name in Ballyshannon.  LDS says it's in Co. Fermanagh, but Google says it's in Donegal.  The name appears in LDS in Ballyshannon and also in Emerald Ancestors in Co. Fermanagh.  Perhaps you should cross over into that County and have a look.

Thanks for the reference to Dongegal however I commissioned a search for John and his parents Terence and Mary (Flaherty) in Donegal and there are no records whatsover, birth, marraige etc, so would appreciate more leads on any other info you may be able to give me.

Hi

I'm afraid I don't have any more info on John McGee's origins, but I do have information on the family of his wife, Jane Kidd, if you are interested. Just let me know.

Regards

Jacky

Hi

Got your pm, but seem unable to reply with another pm. If you can send another pm containing your e-mail, I will let you have the info on Jane Kidd that I have.

Members usually need to make 3 posts before using PM (Personal Message) system- you've 2 at th moment so one more on this thread should do it and you'll be able to see little green scrolls under users names on left side of their posts.
