Portslade By Sea Susex
« on: Wednesday 30 April 08 19:58 BST (UK) »
I am looknig for any information on a Henry Brice and a J. Sweetman/Sweatman living at 44 Norway St during WW1 at this address. An uncle of mine A.R.Knight was corresponding with J Sweetman/Sweatman while serving in France. Would love to find out who these people were, possibly relations.

Hi Peggy,
Have you tried taking a different route on this one?  By that I mean trying to find a relationship between your uncle & these people in Portslade through the regular channels of family tree research?  What form did the correspondence take?  chit-chatty, business-like?  Did he mention any other people?  Did J. Sweetman sound like a male or female?  If someone knows Portslade well perhaps they could tell you if it's a residential address or commercial.
If you want to give us more information about your uncle, perhaps we can see what can be found  :)

Hi Jane, thanks for the reply. First your new twiglet is soooo
cute a real joy no doubt.
This will sound crazy I know but the J Sweetman name and address were found on envelopes (empty!)ones. I was able to check the address and found Henry Brice living  there. I have a connection to Brice in Hitchin Herts. I have a big folder on these people, census records, street directories etc. I just thought through this route I might find someone who would recognize the names and thereby find a connection. Perhaps I should revisit my record collection and  try again to make a connection.

Hi Peggy,
We think she's cute too, so maybe we'll keep her  ;D  Her great grandmother (my late mother) was called Peggy.  I think that's why I was drawn to your posting :D
It sounds like a good idea to dust off those records.  If you need any help just shout!

jane

PS.  Just had a thought.  If they were sent to Portslade by your uncle when he was away on service, how did they end up in your possesion?

;D I just paid a visit to the site, Rosie, so you beat me to it  :)  Norway St. seems (at least nowadays) to be a street of shops,

Hi

I just knew that some people posted on it about those they remembered in the area.
I spent the first three years of my life in North Street but don't remember anything, only what I have been told so it has been interesting to me.
