Claddagh-so worth looking at.

Any one with a passion for photo's that create an atmosphere that almost brings the picture back to life. From the Albert Kahn collection  there are some photo's of the Claddagh  which are captured beautifully.MIGKY has post some of these wonderful pictures which are so vibrant on the Thread Great Southern Hotel (below this post) MIGKY also gives a nice little account of Great Granparents life as people of the Claddagh.I really appreciated the pictures & insight,I'm sure others will too -sorry my old brain cells haven't  worked out how to link threads.Maybe MIGKY could post the picture on here!-I'm just blown over by these pictures.Regards Nipy.

Hi Nipy, as not to hi-jack the Moycullen thread ( i did a bit with my pictures ) i will reply to your question here.I think first and best port of call for you would be the library in Galway city. It is just behind the cathedral. Library H.Q Island house Galway.   http://www.library.ie/weblog/public-libraries/galway-county-library-hq/    I would give them a ring first before you go and book a reader there. They have tons of old newspapers on film plus the 190 & 1911 Census and if you are like me you will get lost in there library section.  Now the down side parking . If you can try and park on the road along where the library is as this is free and only locals know this. If not try and get on the carpark a facing the library as it is €4 for the day but every where ells is restricted to one or two ours parking if you can find any that is. Next port of call is a great new and second hand book shop on Middle street

Hi Nipy, here is a few of the last remaining parts of the Claddagh in the 1920's
Three of my four GreatGrandparents family's live in the village. Later just before they demolished the Claddagh my Grandparents married and set up there own homes there. These pictures might be usefull to any one who might have had family from the Claddagh. Not all family's on here are mentioned in the census. I don't know why as i know my family were there as i have birth records to prove this. If any one would like to have a go at joining the two pictures together, i would be greatfull.

The Claddagh is well worth a visit. My mothers people lived down by the spanish arch at the beginning of the last century

Snap, ours lived on munster lane and when they pulled the Claddagh down in the 1920's moved to new home on Munster avenue.
