Regarding the McArdle who went to WA. The contact details I was given by Patrick McArdle in Armagh for his brother are in storage so will have to find them, then will post that info

Irene- Was reading your info on McArdell family the names of the fathers and sons are the same in the family ands this trips people up. Patrick William McArdell (b.1834) and married at Oatlands in TAS in 1861 to Mary Cleary (b.1843) had 8 children. One of whom was Patrick George McArdell (b.1869). Patrick George married a Maud Radford (b.1892). They had 12 children. I know most of this firsthand as my G/Mother Kathleen (b.1904) was one of the children of Patrick and Maude. Like you I am in Queensland so if you are in Brisbane would like to hear from you some time.

Regards

Hi Legion,

I have your Patrick George McArdell as marrying Maud Radford, my gr grandmother was his sister the eldest child of Patrick and Mary (nee Cleary) born in Feb 1862.

I havent seen any reference to Patrick Snr as having the middle name William.  Even his will just gives the one name and also surname spelt McArdle.  I estimated his year of birth as 1829 but its more a guess.  Would love to hear from you to share info,  please contact me on (*)   I live in Gympie btw.

Cheers and thanks for responding,
Irene

Irene- Yes I have seen the name spelt both ways in the family as McArdel and McArdell. I have always been told it was two "ll" however that some of the family did spell it with one! There are a number of reasons I have been told as to why this was so. I would guess that your gr/mother being Patrick Georges older sister was Margaret (b 1862) ?  My wife has family in your area so I am up there from time to time and some of my family live on the North Coast. Look forward to a meeting and exchange of notes.

Best Regards

I am searching for McARDELLs in England and Ireland.  We have our McARDELLs in England back to the 1841 census:

Edward McArdell, b. c1797 in Dublin (according to info on his marriage record)(we have been unable to confirm this).
+ Anne Mary Stanley (m. 1821, St. Mary's (Church of England) (west of Deansgate), Manchester, England), bapt.  March 16, 1800, Manchester Cathedral, Manchester, England

Joseph, b. c1822, Manchester (he married Charlotte Fisher)
Margaret b. c1824 Manchester?
Edward, b. c1825, Manchester?
William, b. c1830,Salford, Manchester (he married Emma Brazier)
John, b. c1832, West Ham, Essex
James Edward, b. 1835, West Ham, Essex (he married Emma Cooper)  These are my ggrandparents, they immigrated in 1884 with 9 kids to the U.S. (10th child born as they were landing in Montreal), and we have all info on them to the present.
Henrietta Agnes, b. 1837, West Ham, Essex (she has been difficult to research, but have had help with some descendants, all major happenings in her life happened between census years, she is shown with her parents for every census till their deaths in 1871 and 1875)

Where they originated from in Ireland we really have no idea.  An uncle went to Dublin and was unable to find anything on Edward.

Any help or ideas on what to do to be able to go further backward in our family would be greatfully received.

Annie in Minnesota

I would be grateful if you could let me know if you have any further information on Maud Radford eg place of birth and marriage. I am trying to trace my Great Aunt Maud who was born in 1892 in Suffolk UK but I can't find a marriage or death for her in UK.

I doubt if its the same Maud Radford, as the one who married into McArdell family was married in from memory 1903 so not likely to be the one you are searching for.

Thanks for that, it's just that 'LEGION' quoted your Maud Radford as being born 1892.

Best regards
