Christmas Evans
« on: Friday 25 April 08 16:06 BST (UK) »
Family lore says that Christmas Evans, the famous Welsh preacher 1766-1838 was an ancestor. I'm trying to prove it! His biography shows that he and his wife Catharine were childless. Christmas's father was Samuel Evans died abt.1775, his mother was Johanna nee Lewis. Her maiden name appears as a middle name on another ancestor born abt 1845 - so far it's looking hopeful. However, now I'm missing a few generations I think.
Working from Christmas himself the only possible link I can think of is via a brother of Samuel. Can anyone please tell me if I've thought that through right? I'm up to my eyes in Joneses, Owenes and Evanses and beginning to lose my marbles over it!

Good luck in establishing the connection but if he had no children and you are descended from say his brother he cannot be an ancestor as there would be no direct line of descent (like grandson, great-grandson, etc.).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks for that response. Yes - you're right of course. It can only be a connection not a direct blood line. I'm working backwards from my Liverpool branch of the family and so far there has been a 'Christmas' in each generation. The name of his uncle Lewis is used as a middle name a few times. That all makes me feel that I'm on the right track but at the moment I'm a bit lost in a mire of several families with so many similarities that its hard to progress. I think I need to sent for some certificates to clarify things. thanks for your interest. If I have a ureka moment I'll post again!
