Think the local council has a say in choosing street names but not with the name of a house. You can actually call your house or property anything you want.

When we changed mortgages a few years ago we got some of the deeds back and they said that our house used to be called Grovena (not too sure how to pronounce it  :-\)  it's just a number now.

Sadly not - certainly since the late 1990s there is a check made for duplication / suitability etc - I had to go thru the process - at least with my council !

I have just spoken to my council to clear the matter up, and have been told if your house has a number you can call it what ever you want, but should use the number and name in all postal correspondence, if your House does not have a number the name can be changed as long as it is unique to your road lane area etc
