;D Confusing! However, I think he might have been Hannah's brother-in-law? There's this marriage:

John Spiers to Mary McBride, mar. 12th March 1866 in Ayr

I'd just got there Hume - Phew!

We do have the right Hannah McBride, Hume. John's birth address and Hannah's marriage address a month later match  :) An aunt, Mary McBride or Spiers reported John's birth.

Possible entry for the Spiers in 1871:

John Spiers    28, labourer, b. Ireland
Mary Spiers    26, b. Ireland
Hannah Spiers    4, b. Galston, Ayrshire
Joseph Spiers    2, b. Galston, Ayrshire
John Spiers    2mo, b. Ayr

Address: Cross St, St Quivox, Ayrshire

Hannah's parents were called John and Hannah  ::)

Hannah McBride and family were already in Ayrshire by the 1861 census:

Hannah McBride    60, washerwoman, b. Ireland
John McBride    29, labourer at coal pit
Sarrah McBride    20, Cotton Sewer, b. Ireland
Mary McBride    18, Cotton Sewer, b. Ireland
Hannah McBride    13, Cotton Sewer, b. Ireland

Address: 245 High St, Ayr

Mother looks to have died between the census and the time of daughter Hannah's marriage in 1870.

Laura

I think it is time for me to stop  :P

You need to go through the detail and create a tree of some form to help you sort out who is who and then be able to take your research back (will be difficult because of the Irish lines but we are a good way back from this morning) and forward with what you now know.

Regards.

Monica  :)

Hi Laura and Monica,

As Monica says, you have a lot of information here to work through. The best thing to do is to start making a tree and adding the names and dates as you find them. :)

I don't want to overload the thread with too much information!, but on the National Archives of Scotland website, there is a divorce record of James Furey (poor) and Sarah McBride in 1935. She must have re-married to John McGhee after this year and before her death in 1940.

Well that answers that one - I wondered why I couldn't see a death for James Furey. It also now makes sense of the wording on Sarah's DC relating to previous husbands where it state "married for some time" to James Furey, I thought it odd, not now.

Laura

It would seem from the submitted IGI entries, that someone has already been researching this McPherson (and/or the Baxter line). This looks like a submitted entry for Sarah Baxter's birth:

Sarah Baxter Christening:  22 NOV 1835  Ballyeaston Presbyterian Church, , Antrim, Ireland
Parents:Robert Baxter and Sarah Robinson

And siblings, also all submitted entries:

5. Robert Baxter Christening: 25 NOV 1827 Ballynure, Antrim, Ireland
1. James Baxter  Birth: 18 JUL 1830 Of, Ballyeaston, Antrim, Ireland
2. Henderson Baxter Christening: 14 APR 1833 Ballyeaston Presbyterian Church, , Antrim, Ireland
4. Jane Baxter  Christening: 10 APR 1838 Ballyeaston Presbyterian Church, , Antrim, Ireland
6. Thomas Baxter Christening: 06 JUL 1851 Carnmoney, Antrim, Ireland

I would imagine that your great grandmother Sarah McBride was called after Louisa's mother.

Monica

Monica, how can you tell that someone else has been searching for this same record?

And as an addition to that, is there anyway of finding out who actually searched for that particular record? Just in case there is someone else who is also looking for the same family roots, which in turn could unturn a few more stones???
