Nice one. That sounds like the ticket.

That's great, are there any other children listed at the address in Friargate? Would be most interested for any details listed for the family as a whole.

Thanks so much for that.

Cheers

Hi,

Alice is the only child listed in 1861.

In 1871 as follows:
Isabella age 5
Richard age 2
Ellen age 11 months.

Lancashire: Caton, Wilkes, Garstang, Turner, Crook
Cumbria:    Galt, Winskill
Yorkshire:   Bottom, Shaw, Carter-Shaw, Turner

Hi Groucho

If Alice's father was William McVey, I think he may have died in 1854.  Do you know which Parish he lived in?

Vac,

That would seem plausible as Alice's mother Jane remarried Thomas Caton in 1859. In August 1853 when Alice McVey was born they lived in Victoria Street, which I think comes under St Peters. Where did you find that? I've tried for ages to find out what happened to him.

Hi Groucho

I've been looking at St Catherines House indexes between 1852 and 1859.  3rd Quarter of 1854 looks promising but need to check it out in P.Reg  I'm assuming he died in Preston.

Not familiar with that. Where do you access those records? Looks like it could be helpful.

I would presume he died in Preston, he worked in Preston and I don't think there were too many more William McVeys at the time.

Groucho,

Larger reference libraries usually hold copies, alternatively,  The Family History Centre at your nearest LDS Church.
