so, have you looked for a death of the Ethel / Edith whichever that he married in 1893 - if she died before 1901, he's alone and we cant use a christian name only / spouse search ....

The Lancs BMD site is great for birth & marriages but it doesn't seem to have deaths for Liverpool transcribed yet

its a tough one not being able to find him / them in the 1901 census - using just christian names, ages etc - and with Hunter just PoB of Cum* doesnt tease out any obvious mistrans    ::)

Got there in the end - looking for kids with unusual forenames in the BMD and seeking them on the census revealed:-

I would never have found him, so Esther was from Cumberland too...


I just need to find Miriam Barnes fom the 1891 census and then I can track back the other way.
