A few of the names I am researching in Ayrshire are Petrie/ Ralston/ Millar/ Jaffrey/ Dickie/ Wylie/ Speirs. Is there anyone else researching any of these names?  Donna

I have Dickies from the Kilwinning Area in my tree. Will have a look at my notes and let you know. Some of the names are Robert Archibald Agnes John and James.  Also researching Dickie families from the Glasgow Area

Hello Wendy, I don't know whether you still look at these pages but I too am descended from Thomas McLaren and Helen Higgins. My Great Grandmother was Margaret McLaren born 1835 in Kilmarnock. She was a sister of David McLaren born 1828.
I cannot go further back than Thomas and Helen but I would be interested to know more about any other McLaren descendants.

Robin

Hi Icini,

My g.g.g'parents are David McLaren & Margaret Dickie. Margaret born abt 1835, Mauchline, Ayr. They married 1854, Glasgow.
Shipping records have them travelling from Glasgow to Australia 13/11/1865 aboard the 'Samarang' with 3 sons, Thomas 11, George 9, (my g.g'father) and Duncan 5. The family spent 1 year in Queensland before moving to Victoria.

Any connection?

cheers,

Wendy

Hello Wendy, as far as I can see we are third cousins 1X removed according to FTM definition. Where do you live in Australia? I was born in Scotland in 1946 and have lived in Switzerland since 1972. I wear the McLaren kilt.

Would be interested to hear back from you. I would be happy to share my McLaren descendancy with you. I have not been able to go further back that Thomas Mclaren, and Helen Higgins Kilmarnock so far.

Hi

For what it's worth, I have a JOHN SPEIR who has turned up in my research. He owned a Saddlers shop in Burn's Statue Square, Ayr in the late 1800s/early 1900s.

I have more info and dates etc. If you think it might be of any use to you, I'll happily pass them on.

Regards

Brian
