1901 Dublin census lookup please - Murray
« on: Saturday 19 April 08 20:57 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have access to the 1901 Dublin census for the Summerhill area?

I am looking for my great grandfather Patrick Philip Murray born ca 1845 in Scotland. On the 1911 Dublin census he is living at 3 Summerhill, Mountjoy, with his wife Mary nee Holland born ca 1854 in North America [Nova Scotia] and daughters Agnes born 1888 in Cavan, Kathleen born 1890 I don't know where & Mary born 1894 in Dublin. He was an army pensioner. Of course I am only guessing that they were living in Summerhill in 1901.

Any help gratefully received. Many thanks.

Josey

Hi we are new to the forum. My grandmother was also from Summerhill number 35 on the 1911 census, both my grandmother and greatgrandmother were shown.
We have been trying to find a copy of the 1901 to check if they were living at the same place - but had no luck. They were the Williams family. Also of interest was that my grandfather was also an army pensioner having been in the Hussars leaving in about 1910 it would appear that our families were neighbours around 1911.

I have a copy of Dublin 1901 census index to the North Strand, Clonliffe Road and Summerhill District, compiled by Marie Keogh.

Murray - There are no listings for Philip or Mary Murray living at 3 Summerhill.
But there is a Mary Murray living at 8 Ballybough Road.
Philip could have been away with the army, or they could be living in army lodgings in the barracks.

Williams - There are 10 listings. If you like you could forward the first names and i can check if they are included.

Regards

Many thanks for looking Noel.

Mary Murray the daughter was born in Dublin in 1894 so the family must have moved to Dublin from Killeshandra Co Cavan by that date but obviously not living in Summerhill. That's useful information so thanks.

Patrick retired from the army in 1889. He had been an Instructor of Musketry in the 87th regiment Royal Irish Fusiliers. The family lived in Killeshandra Co Cavan from about 1882 till sometime before 1894. What an interesting thought, HowDel, that when they were neighbours in 1911 my great grandfather & your grandfather may have regaled each other with their army stories!

Look forward to the 1901 census being indexed & online, aghadowey!

Thanks for your replies, Josey
