'bumping' into distant relatives!!
« on: Sunday 16 January 05 13:18 GMT (UK) »
just thought id share what has been a very bizarre last couple of days for me.
Have been mainly using the internet to do my family tree, over the last couple of years i have found out quite a bit of info, but not in quite the detail i wanted.  Anyway, went into my local studies library on thursday, and whilst being shown by  the historian how to use the electoral register microfiche happened to mention the surname i was looking up.  ''ooh'' she says, ''we have a @@@@@ working here, i'll get him to pop over and see you when he gets here''. unusual surname i was researching.....and lo and behold he and i are related!! going back many generations, on our fathers' sides,  gggf's are brothers!!!
of all the librarys in all the world , i walk into his!!!

second EXTREMELY bizarre situation happened at work on friday! Im a nurse, and was looking after a group of patients, when i noticed one lady had a very familiar name...checked date of birth and next of kin, had a call from another of her sons, and lo and behold it was my aunty who i havent seen for 20 odd years!!!! she and my father are brother and sister....I lost touch with my dad many many years ago, and so lost touch with his side of the family too.  HUGE family reunion....and the best bit, today i talked to my dad for the first time in 10 years!!!!
my children now have a grandad, i have a very caring family (I was overwhelmed by their affection towards me!)....and a long christmas list once again!!!!

one of my cousins' daughters is just starting her family tree research, so I have lots of info to share if she wants it, plus the distant cousin at the library is willing to share any info i want.....!!!!!

what a fantastic couple of days!!

hi tired,

that's fantastic news. I bet after talking to them, it helped to break down quite a few brick walls within your family.

It just goes to show that you never know what the next day is going to bring, and just when you are about to give up as well.

woo hoo for tiredwithtwins

Wow,

That is a lovely story, tired with twins, thank you for sharing it!

It shows we should never lose hope.  One day when we least expect it, a brick wall may come crashing down!
