COMPLETED Pimlico Wall (Hoxton?)
« on: Friday 18 April 08 13:07 BST (UK) »
I've just received a marriage certificate relating to the marriage of some relatives (Charles John Ettridge to Eliza Sarah Ettridge) 15 December 1873 at St John the Baptist, Hoxton.

Both bride and groom give their address as Pimlico Wall (she at number 1, he at number 4).

I've looked at the couple of sites I have bookmarked for old London streets, and searched t'internet, but can't find Pimlico Wall.

Anyone any ideas where Pimlico Wall was?

These two are presumably cousins, but apart from the 1881 census (RG11/440; Folio: 63; Page: 6) this certificate seems to be the only time this Charles John Ettridge appears in the records.  I have the bride's family and her relationship to me, but I can't find the groom's birth or on the 1861 or 1871 censuses (according to the 1881 census he is born c. 1853 in London)

thanks in advance for any input!

Oops, silly me.  Father is Thomas Ettridge, a painter.

Here's the full transcript of the cert:

15th Dec 1873

Charles John Ettridge     full age     bachelor     Carver     4 Pimlico Wall     Thomas Ettridge     Painter
Eliza Sarah Ettridge       minor*      spinster         --          1 Pimlico Wall     Edward Ettridge     Fishmonger

married after banns by T(?) H. Wright

witnesses: Thomas Ettridge and Rebecca Farrington.

* Eliz's dob is 10 Dec 1855

I suspect Rebecca Farrington is another Ettridge (though not entirely sure of her parentage yet), as there's a Rebecca Ettridge marrying a John George Farrington (1871, Q2, Shoreditch, 1c, 338; IGI Batch M040371).

I suspect Wall is a mistranscription of Walk, there is a Pimlico Walk in Hoxton.

If you go back to 1841 and seek out Ett* born St Lukes, you can see that Edward, William and possibly a Thomas are brothers - sons of an older Thomas ?

Following Thomas, married to an Elizabeth in 1841 and 1851 - hes a Bricklayer in Reform Place ...

1861 same address, has a pretty scruffy pair of pages that looks like them, with a Charles of the right age. But 'Head' on previous page is still a Brickie.

See what you think ?

Thanks Sue & Newfster for the census spots.  They look very promising.

Thanks for Pimlico Walk clarification, Jebber.
