Good idea, Trish......

I'm sure all these registrations were done differently just to make life of future researchers difficult!

......dee

Bernard seems very confused about his name, and it seems he was known as Barney regardless. One of my favourite family groups I researched had 7 daughters, none of whom was known by her registered name.

Hi dee with ref to you I Quote

Another question for you, Alison...... do you know if any of the other children of John and Maria emigrated?

.....dee

I know of no other children of John & Marie who emigrated ,

But I do know that Laurence Jackson Halpin 1934 the brother of John halpin mentioned emigrated to New zealand approx 1854-1864
He married Margaret Mournian  their children where

James Halpin 1866 married Elizabeth Kenny
Robert Halpin 1871 married Maud Coulling
Bernard Sylvester Halpin 1871 ? married Mary stewart
Mary josephine Halpin 1876 married John Beckingsale
Margaret Halpin born 1887 married  Gilbert mckenzie

********************************************
My Great Grandfather Joseph Patrick born 1895's Brother Charles Halpin born 1905 born Liverpool, Merseyside, England emigrated To America when he was 20years old on the ship Scythia liverpool to new york
1907 was put on his emmigration papers

Charles .W. HALPIN
    Birth Date: 27 Oct 1905
    Death Date: 8 Feb 1988
    Social Security Number:  089-03-9840
State or Territory Where Number Was Issued:  New York

  Death Residence Localities
    ZIP Code: 34208

I would love to find his family I think i would have to start a new post in the Emigrated to America section

That is it i am afraid .

In answer to your question the only other information i have on the Halpins was given to me by my Uncle and he died last September in Scotland.

I don't really know my Fathers side of the family he left when i was three years old I only met him  in about 1982 he died 1991
and i have not long ago found a brother my father had to his second marriage so that is all the information i have

SORRY  ::) I have an Uncle to my great granfathers 2nd marriage who emigratyed to Australia in 1973 his name is Alan Halpin 1950 my Great grandfather Joseph Patrick Halpin had 17  children to two wives 2 of which died in infancy .
So as you can see i am Stuck to say the least so any help would be appreciated

Best wishes Alison

Alison,
you asked who Ambrose is......Ambrose is the son of Patrick and Teresa .....see message #2 of this thread for his birth as Patrick A Halpin and Message #7 for his death.

There were only two Halpin births registered at Greta, NSW .....Lawrence A Halpin and Patrick A Halpin. It was not uncommon for a child named after his father to go by his second given name, and Patrick junior must have done that, as the war record refers to him as Ambrose, and so do all the other records we found. I did notice on the OneWorldtree on Ancestry that he is named Patrick Andrew on there........but all the evidence we have found seems to suggest he was Patrick Ambrose.

You asked about seeing the war records......you will have to download them yourself from the website to the National Archives of Australia, that I posted in Message #9. Just click on the link in message #9, click on Recordsearch, choose to search as a guest, and then enter Halpin Ambrose (in that order) into the Search Engine.

When the result page opens, click Display and then you will get a summary page where it will name Barney Halpin (Bernard Joseph) as his brother. Click on the view digital copy link, and you will be able to see and save all the pages of his record.

Do the same to get Lawrence's record.
