Charles Smith was born in London in the period 1830-1834 most likely 1832.
He emigrated sometime before his marriage in Melbourne, Australia 16 Dec 1852
Family hearsay is that he was from the Smiths that begat Elizabeth Cook nee Batts, wife of Captain James Cook, navigator. It is said these families spent time with each other; it is therefore possible that these surnames will be found cohabiting in the censuses.
