William Hancock 1802 - Fulbourn
« on: Sunday 13 April 08 21:13 BST (UK) »
Hello Everyone,

I've hit the proverbial brick wall with my Hancock ancestry in Fulbourn.

Please could someone give me a heads up on the parents of William Hancock born in Fulbourn in or abt 1802.  Plenty of Hancocks about but cannot find this one.   :(

Thanks for looking and helping me out.

S.J Detective,
I don't suppose you have in your HANCOCK tree of Fulbourn a Mary HANCOCK who married a John JOHNSON on August 7th 1773, who was referred to in the Fulbourn Chronicle of the time as:
"...a very agreeable and deserving lady with a handsome fortune..."

Hi Keith,

Unfortunately my Hancock research is not yet back to these dates yet.  I would imagine she is a likely candidate once I've been able to piece together the earlier Hancock years in Fulbourn.  Sounds like an interesting lady!  I'll see what I can find out, many thanks for the lead.

My confirmed Hancocks in the area go back to William Hancock b. abt 1774 who married Martha Hart on 4th Feb 1794.  I assume his parents to be Edward Hancock and either a Mary or Ann unknown, born abt 1750 ish.  I've not been able to piece together the Hancocks yet around about the 1750's, so a good chance the Mary above might fit into the equation somewhere.

Are you researching the Hancocks as well, or just an interesting fact that you came across?

Anyone have any ideas or researching the Hancocks that could throw more light on the subject?  Who did Edward Hancock marry was it a Mary or an Ann?  Must have been about 1770?

S.J Dectective,
The family I have been trying to get a handle on back into the 18thC in the Cambridge area are the JOHNSON's.  By having a quick look at the Fulbourn PR's I know there are a LOT! of HANCOCKS in the index, so perhaps next time I'm at the CCRO I'll have a more specific search for yours...

Yes there are an awful lot of Hancocks in Fulbourn! and that's my problem!  So many to choose from, one day I'll make a visit to Cambs RO and see what I can locate myself.

I am Leicester based, so if you have any connections with ancestors this way please let me know.

In the meantime any help and advice gratefully received and once again many thanks for your time in looking and helping me with my research in Cambridgeshire.
