Looking for Hannah Cronkshaw born Bellmount around 1800-1806
« on: Sunday 13 April 08 18:37 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me find Hannah Cronkshaw who was born at Bellmount I think that is Great Harwood Lancs around 1800- 1806, but I am not 100% sure because she was married at Altham Parish Church Lancs ( Don't know where she was christened ) She married Edmund Sharples on 1/1/1827. Are there any electoral rolls or the like to say where people lived before there were census'
Hope someone can help
Thanks Tess

Hi.

Just wondering if you have a marriage certificate for hannah cronkshaw and edmund sharples. I believe edmund may be my 4G Grandfather but im struggling to find information on him and his family.

My 3G Grandfather is peter sharples born around 1827 in lancashire possibly clayton le moors. and was married to an ellen shorrock at the all saints church at clayton le moors in 1848. On the marriage certificate he listed an Edmund sharples as his father. I also have a burial card for an edmund sharples, buried on the 1/08/1889 at the all saints church, clayton le moors. However it does not list any children or a wife on that card.

If you have any information that would be great.

There is a death in the September qtr 1889 for an Edward Sharples - but not Edmund.  He was 89yrs old

There were no marriage certs prior to 1.7.1837 - only entries in the parish registers

The 1841 entry is shown above

In 1851 they had 2 additional children Betsy aged 8 and Martha aged 6

Edmund is shown as Edward and was 46 b Clayton le Moors  Hannah was 45 b Bellmount

1861 - back to Edmund b 1805 and a widower

1871 - switch to Edward b 1805,  Daughter Betsy has married Robert Heys and is living with Edward/Edmund plus their 2 children Fanny 4 and Jane 4mths

Can't find him in 1881

Thanks for that its all very confusing. Im hoping this is the edmund im looking for.

Its strange for him to be put down as both edmund and edward. His D.OB. is abit dodgy also. I have him as dying in july 1889 at age 89. Which would make his birth 1800 not 1805. put i guess they may have gotten his age at death wrong.

Thanks again for the help!

Hi

Haven't a clue - it's shown as 2 separate words on the 1851 - Bell  Mount so may have been the name of a road/street or small village within the area

It's shown as Lancashire but there is a Bellmount in Norfolk

Re: his age - info on a death cert is not always accurate as it depends on who reported the death and what documentary info they had about the deceased.

My Great grandfather was 75 when he died but his daughter reported the death and gave his age as 68

Thanks Carole,
There is a place at Bolton called Bellmont and someone told me Belmont was a village in Gt Harwood There was a baptism at Altham and they were married in Altham, so it must be local and may not be there now I don't know.
So, Thanks for you help. If you come across it anytime please let me know.
