Grave Digger

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to locate  a person when all you have is there name and occupation. My grandfather John Lazenby is listed on his daughter's marriage certificate as a  " Grave Digger", this would have been late 1800's early 1900's and I have no idea where possibly England.

If it was England, theres a lot of John Lazenbys - a few Labourers, an Undertakers Manager but no specific Grave Digger shown in the 1901 census.

Take it slowly is the answer.  I assume that you have no other information about him.  If you have please post it because it might help.

Do you have his daughter's birth certificate?  Was he married?  Do you know his wife's name?  Are there any other children who might have been living with him.  Where was his daughter married?  Who were the witnesses.
 
Searching for any of these on a census might help.

You need to get as much information as possible and then use the clues that arise from that information

Hi David,
              unfortunately I only have his daughter's marriage certificate thats where I found out her maiden name and her father's occupation she was married in 1918 and John Lazenby is not listed as deceased so I am assuming he is still alive!

Would she have been alive and in England in 1901? If so have you searched the 1901 census for her?

Have tried that cant find her anywhere well not that i recognise she was suppost to be married to a Mullins then but he changed his name so makes it harder to find them. On her marriage cert in 1918 has her listed as formerly Sarah Ann Mullins Widow. But I cant find a marriage between a mullins and Lazenby.

How old was Sarah in 1918?  And her address?
Who were the witnesses on the certificate?

It is possible that she was illegitimate, or that the Mullins marriage took place elsewhere (i.e. Ireland, Scotland?), or that she had been married more than once before? He could well be deceased even if it's not mentioned on the certificate.

I can't see any Mullins/Lazenby births, either - I wonder if she was involved with a Mr Mullins who was in the army in WWI?

Do the later births of her children confirm the spelling of her maiden name as Lazenby?
