Help with the HABGOOD family please....

I'm researching the Bartlet family from Cirencester Gloucestershire and on the 1881 census there are 2 grandchildren born in Devon.

Stephen Bartlet born 1811 Cirencester, widowed by 1881 living with him are one daughter with her daughter Hester, and these 2 Devon children, Florence Kate Habgood born 1874, and William Ernest Habgood born 1875 both born in Barnstable Devon.

Other children that were not on the 1881 census are;

Louisa born 1828
Charlotte born 1834
Mary Ann born 1836 married to John Adams Shepherd
Frederick born 1840
Maria born 1843
Ernest Alfred married to Emma
Charles W born 1849.  All born in Cirencester. All Bartlets.

I have looked for a marriage for the 3 single daughters with no luck but may of overlooked something.

Any help would be appreciated

Hello Helina

Here are some things which may be relevant:

As well as Florence Kate (Q2. 1874) and William Ernest  (Q2. 1875) there was also a Sophie/a Elizabeth Habgood registered in Barnstaple in Q2. 1873.   Sophie Elizabeth Habgood died Q3. 1873 Cirencester age 0.

A Maria Bartlet  married Q2. 1872 Marylebone, London.
William Habgood on the same page.

A William Habgood, Wid, age 47 B. Cirencester, a draper out of business, was living in Kings Langley in 1881.

At the moment, the only death for a Maria Habgood which "fits" is in Q1 1881 in Chippenham, Wilts  - which only adds another place!

I realise these may all be totally unrelated, but the names and dates perhaps make it worth looking into?

To add:

1871 census:  RG10. P. 2182 Fol. 83 Pg. 36

William Habgood  Head  Un  36  Draper employing 6 assistants  B.  Gloucester, Cirencester.

Living 87 High Street, Barnstaple with housekeeper and 3 drapers assistants in household.

Why - if this is them - they would have got married in London, no idea.

Could be the right William Habgood. Maria's brother Ernest married Emma Matthews in London in 1877, so several members of the family could of been living/working in London at that time.

I certainly missed that marriage, thought the other sisters abit old to have such young children.

As to why the children were living with their Grandfather and Aunt, maybe he found it difficult looking after the children on his own even with a housekeeper, (maybe she was more than a housekeeper?)  Daughter Florence on the 1891 census was a school mistress at a school in Honiton so she keep in touch with her father. William was living with his Uncle Ernest on the 1901 census.

Not sure where Kings Langley is.  Googled and it appears to be in Herefordshire, so no housekeeper? I'll have a look at the census.

I didn't put up full details of William in 1881 because I was only working on assumptions - albeit the coincidences seem far too strong to be dismissed.

Yes there is a housekeeper, and William is down as a widower, living at 46 Fitzurse House, and Kings Langley is in Wiltshire so may not be to far from Cirenester'

Kings Langley is also within the Chippenham registration district, which is where I found the only likely death reg. for Maria
