Of course from June 1944, it would have had D-Day stripes on...

Thanks Pete .... I 'm still recovering from it ;)... a   big job it was ... but when you think of the sacrifices made on our behalf ... it puts things into perspective very quickly ... ..  the Lancaster and the Spitfire in particular seem to be part of the British psyche  ... and held in a huge amount of collective love and nostalgia ...and  just listening to the sound of that Lancaster today on the news ... you can see why ... tis a sound synonymous with  sacrifice and courage ...

Hi Poll
We have the last surviving pilot from that "Dambusters" raid here in NZ and he is an invited guest to witness the flight to mark the anniversary.
89 yr old Les Munro of Tauranga New Zealand, an acquaintance of my father-in-law who was a Sunderland pilot.

You're up late Poll, 'watch those eyes' ::) meaning take care and rest them of course... didn't see any footage myself although there may have been an item. There was just one tiny snippet in the NZ Herald but it may have been covered
better by other publications. Maybe they'll interview him when he gets home.
