Good point, Robert.

How about using an image hosting website (such as Photobucket) and just posting the link to the photograph?

You could write a narrative history of the image on the Rootschat thread and then click on the link.  That should save quite a bit of server space.

I was thinking about the size issue today and since the photos are not being posted for restoring, they really only need to be very small in file size eg 72kg (as opposed to dimensions).

I do think you are right though, Tristan or Sarah need to give their consent as I'm sure server space is at a premium.

Cheers

China,
that's sweet. what is your connection to the photo?
RAF Debert, Nova Scotia was the home of 31 Operational Training Unit (OTU), which specialized in training crews to ferry aeroplanes across the Atlantic.
A good history is:
OCEAN BRIDGE The History of RAF Ferry Command (ISBN: 0802006388)  University of Toronto Press 1995.
An interesting personal history of Debert at the time of the photo is at :
http://www.debertmilitarymuseum.org/harris.htm
The Lockheed Hudson was quite an elderly 'kite' by April 1944.
I assume No 1 Squadron to be a sub unit (a Flight) within 31 OTU.

What cracking photos this thread is unearthing.  China I think you should air your cockpit photo again, still ranks up there as one of my favourites!!

Superb photo China.

Sounds like Wickenby would be interested in any photos of Bomber Command from that era for their museum.

Caz and Poll, I take my hat off to you both for attempting this, after numerous attempts at a small naffi scene at 1200 dpi I think I'm nearly their( gets you turning into an obsessive).

what is your connection to the photo?

I had to take a magnifying glass to it to find my connection ;D The 9th fellow from the right in the second row was a RAF stationed at Carberry, Manitoba. My grandfather had some connection to Carberry, possibly a medical officer as he was a surgeon...he used to invite homesick young men home for roast beef and Yorkshire pud, and my mother remained friends with several of them after the war.
