What a fascinating thread.
Caz and Poll do you really want to go down the coloured route. Boy, what a minefield.
I have been looking on-line for a coloured wartime Lanc photo. All I can come up with is this famous colour pic by Charles E Brown. But beware the brown - even here it looks a little pale. The black is matt. Avoid any gloss at all costs.
I will have to rummage through my book collection, which is still boxed up after a house move.
The foreground is concrete. The building to right rear is camouflaged medium, matt, green. The vehicle is Air Force Blue (blue gray).
The men and women and their uniforms. Weeeellll....I am wondering just what we have here, as there seems to be a preponderance of groundcrew and service echelons. There seem to be less aircrew than I first thought.
OK, try this for colouring: Officers (hats not caps) Air Force Blue, if dark, then think Navy Blue. Same for aircrew; aha I hear you groan, how to spot them - look for insignia on left breast and also light dots on collar (these are whistles).
This leaves the majority who are Air Force Blue. The blokes in overalls can be various shades of grot as befits their trade and the amount of grease and muck and sun fading that these garments would attract (so for the tradesmen ignore comments about Australian dark blue).
Woolley, thanks for pointing out your Dad.
Beard Grandchild, "Ginger" lives in many many photos. A whole generation that have passed on and who never captioned photos nor thought anyone would be interested to ask. Why not post the photo, we might be able to offer some background.
Cheers
