The Ballincollig Heritage Association (BHA) was set up in 2006, with the aim of raising heritage issues in Ballincollig. Three core sites were identified: the 19th century former Gunpowder Mills, the former military barracks, the 14th century castle and the ring fort on the Link Road. The BHA promotes the preservation and conservation of these sites as well as other sites and buildings with historical significance within the Ballincollig area, as a means of enhancing the town, both for its inhabitants and for tourism.
