Hi Ginga80,

I can see no connection at the moment, but more information might unearth something.  My Ellery's originated in the West Country area, Gloucestershire & Wiltshire.

I suggest you try and obtain (Harold) Augustus Ellery's birth record.  You might be able to do this by contacting the East India Library via http://indiafamily.bl.uk/U1/Sources.aspx.
Their birth records would give you the following info:

Returns of Baptisms, Marriages and Burials 1698-1969
Apart from the series for the three Indian presidencies (Bengal 1713-1948; Madras 1698-1948, and Bombay, 1709-1948), there are returns for St Helena (1767-1835), Fort Marlborough (1759-1825), Penang (1799-1829), Macao and Whampoa (1820-1833), Burma (1937-1957), India and Pakistan (1949-1968), Kuwait (1937-1961), and Aden (1840-1969).

Baptism records generally give the following details:
name of church
date of birth
date of baptism
name of child
names of parents
abode
profession of parents
copy-signature by whom baptized

Good luck,

Craig

Am pretty much a beginner of all of this, but can definitely confirm that my Great Grandfather was Thomas James Ellery, son of Richard Ellery who, originally, came from Sutton Benger.

I joined up to Ancestry.co.uk who gave me access to the censuses.  Have traced back as far as Richard's father (also a Richard) b. 1797 Sutton Benger. They seem to have been a family of bakers as you probably know.  When down in that area a year ago I saw the family gravestone in the local church.

Gave my research a bit of rest for a few months.  Have recently tried again and was most interested in Richard's wife, Ellen, who was at Brookwood Assylum.
Admitted Dec. 27th l870, died there April 15th 1871.  I have a transcript of her details - admission, diagnosis, state whilst there from Surrey History Centre.

I did not realise that Richard had married twice after here death.  I knew about Rhoda Letitia, but not about the interim marriage to Mary Eliza Lane.

It seems my great grandfather died (don't know why ??)  in 1886, so only about  32).

My grandfather was Frank Ernest Thomas Ellery born 1882.
Married 1902 to Maud Julia Linnett (shown as a perfumier in the census).

They had (and I have no dates as yet) 5 children as far as I know.
Elsie, Frank, Albert George Edward (my father), Nellie and Walter.

My father (Albert, George Edward) was always known as 'Mick' and we lived in Wembley, Middlesex.  He married Ethel Winifred Pruden in 1935 and there is myself - Jacqueline Anne Ellery (Born 11th June 1945) and my older sister Kay Ellery (born 7th Sept. 1938).

There is quite obviously a connection here, so will be most interested to hear your response.

Kindest regards

Jackie.

Hi Jackie,
Many thanks for your message and delighted to make your acquaintance.
We are most degfinitely cousins a few times removed. My gteat great grandfather was Isaac Ellery born Sutton Benger about 1797 (although I haven't found his baptism entry), a younger brother of your Richard.  Isaac married twice and his son by his 2nd marriage (Isaac) James joined the army, was posted to Stirling Castle where he married Catherine McBeth. They remained there, my grandfather was their 6th (of 12) children, Alfred, his son my father Stanley and down to me Craig Ellery (b. 1957).
I've done a lot of research on our Ellery family, including a bit on your own branch.
Send me an e-mail to (*) and it will be easier to communicate and send pdfs etc.
Look forward to hearing from you again soon.
best wishes,
Craig

Hi. I am a new member wanting some information about my great grandfather, great grandmother, and/or further back.  I am the granddaughter of Jennie Dorothy Ellery.  Jennie was the daughter of Richard Rawleigh Ellery who married Marion Jane Thomas.
I am searching for birth & death dates for Richard Rawleigh Ellery and Marion Jane Ellery (nee Thomas)?
Also Richard Rawleigh's father (also named Richard = Richard Ellery) who married Rhoda Letitia Tooke was (according to Craig Ellery/ellerydesign) born in 1877 & died 1906.   Do you also know full birth & death dates for Richard Ellery and Rhoda Letitia Tooke?
Actually any additional information would be appreciated, ie, where they were born, date & where they married, etc.
Regards, Janice.  :)
