Dawsons Wood Nr Idle West Yorkshire
« on: Sunday 06 April 08 12:29 BST (UK) »
I am researching my cousins Family & have found that they originated in Idle Yorkshire that is near Bradford. The earliest I have got back to was a John Dawson born about 1805 in Idle. My Cousin is related to one of his sons, William Dawson,  who was stated as being a "Stonequarrier" on his Sons Marriage Certificate. On Google Map for Idle there is a very large wood named "Dawsons Wood" which has an old Quarry nearby.
Can anyone help me to find the reason why this wood was named "Dawsons Wood" & if my cousins family are in any way connected to it?

Hello Michael

Leeds Directory 1847 page 341 which actually covers dates much earlier has a section dealing with Idle it seems the Dawson's are farmers Christopher H, John, and Samuel. I would think Dawson's Wood would be part of Dawson's farm???
The directories are held by Liecestershire University and are searchable
