In the 1851 census, George Nelless (a farmer) and family lived at Tynemouth Mill, which was flanked on one side by the Master Marriners Asylumn Dwellings, Tynemouth Gate, and Percy Square (I know that's been replaced by The James Knott Flats) -
and on the other side by Spittal Dean Cottage, Spital Cottage, The Lodge, and Preston Lane Cottage.
In the 1861 Census, and those following, the family live at Spittal Dean Farm, where George farmed 72 acres & employed two farm workers
Would the Mill have been renamed, or a farmhouse built?
Are there any old maps or pictures of Tynemouth which might show this?
Thanks in anticipation
Liz
