Barnard Castle Bishops Transcripts
« on: Monday 31 March 08 20:36 BST (UK) »
While going through the Bishops transcripts for Barnard Castle on http://search.labs.familysearch.org I am noting down any Wilson's, Loftus's and Cruddas/Cruddass/Cruddoes/Cruddace I find (in the hope of linking them all together)

If anyone has any of these names in their tree from Barnard Castle (and possibly Cruddas from Hamsterley, which I will be doing next) I am happy to search my spread sheet for you and tell you what page to look at on the site as the scrolling through makes your eyes go funny!! :o

Hi Claire, I am new to this today and I am researching the Cruddas family tree and I think that we may be talking about the same family. I have gone back to George Cruddas b.1835 and his father who was William b.1815.

Have you got anything for William b.1815?????

Hope you can help.
Regards, D

Hi Claire - I'm currently trawling my way through the Stockton BTs; wish I had thought to post before I started so I could have saved others a lot of work, but a bit late now as I'm on p.85.  As you say, it makes the eyes go funne - but it is so interesting.

One set which are really poignant are the Sunderland BTs for 1831/32 which chart the deaths in the cholera epidemic of that year.  The clerk noted in the margin the first death from cholera, and then you can see as the number of deaths gradually increase and whole families were falling victim within days of each other.

Regards,
Chris

Hi Daz123

I'm researching the same line! I am a descendant of William, George and then George's daughter Sarah who married William Hankinson.

William is being elusive. I can't find him anywhere  :(

Which of George's children are you descended from?

Hi Claire,

I am descended from  William then his son George then from his son Edward (he was brother of your Sarah!). Edward married Isabella and they had several children including my grandmother Ada Mary.

So we are distant relatives.

Hi Claire and Daz123,

It looks as though we have all come to a full stop with your William c1813 and my James c1797.

I went through Barnard Castle a couple of weeks ago and remembered that in the 50/60's there was a garage on the way in (from Darlington and Gainford) named Cruddace. My Dad was into cars but said there was no connection with us, but he didn't know much about his family (or didn't let on).

Regards,
Colin

Added: Coming to think of it, the garage was at Richmond. Totally different places but the way in is the same (in layout) road comes in then turns left into the centre.
