Bootle Grammar School?
« on: Sunday 30 March 08 17:13 BST (UK) »
Some years ago my sister on a visit to Liverpool was taken by my uncle to see a plaque at a school which had my father listed on it for some reason that I am not sure of.  My uncle and my father are both dead now.

Sadly it had just been removed and some of the stone pieces were lying on the ground and the rest had been thrown away.  I think it was whole a list of names not just my Dads.   He didn't die in the war so it wouldn't be a roll of honour.

We believe it was Bootle Grammar School but it may have been being demolished. I visited Liverpool Record Office and could find nothing there and also contacted Bootle Old Boys Association who could not help.

I would be very grateful if anybody has any suggestions as to how I could confirm that  he attended Bootle Bootle Grammar School and why he was on the plaque.

Thanks for reading this. :)

Elin

It may be worth contacting one of the names on this site:

http://www.theoldbootleians.plus.com/

to see whether they have access to archives or know where they are, or have any other ideas to help you.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for your response!  The old Bootlians couldn't help me with this one and others have told me that the plaques were the Roll of Honour, but my father survived the war!

I still don't know for sure that he went to Bootle Grammar School, my Uncle said that he did but my Aunt is sure that it was a Technical College.

I have attached a photo on the offchance that you or somebody else might recognise the uniform or the building.  It is of my Father and Grandfather.

Thanks again, :)

Hi Tonka,

That's interesting, it would seem that he went to the technical college then.  Do you mean that the technical college took over the old Grammar School building?  If so that might explain the confusion.

My dad was called John (Jack) Kelly and he must have been there in the 1920s, I would imagine.

Thanks to you and your dad!
