Dont know about Thomas sister, the Thomas I have in my tree is a Thomas Jarvis/Jervis ( there is some confusion over if it is Jarvis or Jervis as it is different in different records and even amongst the family noone is absolutley sure) who was married to  a Jane they had a daughter Jane who was married  on 15th March1884 to Owen Owen Lewis when she was 20. Her father on the wedding certificate is listed as Thomas jarvis of the Commercial Inn, Penisarwaun.
Owen and Jane had 6 children one of whom was my grandfather

Didih,
The info re Jane's marriage was given me by a G.R. member, Karen; I have now checked on freebmd for marriage of Jane Jervis/Jarvis and as you say the only one I can find is to Owen Owen Lewis, March qtr 1884.

The surname does vary from census to census.

Thomas  Jervis/Jarvis born 1833 Llandeiniolen married Jane Williams born 1834 Beddgelert, baptised 29th November 1834, Beddgelert.  Jane was sister to my gt.grandma Elizabeth born 1847  Llanrug.   Jane and Elizabeth had 12 brothers and sisters!!!!  Their father Robert Williams was a master shoemaker.

I will  contact Karen, and try to find how she came about her information!

Can I provide the following for consideration re the Jervis family of Commercial Inn, Penisarwaen.

An author called Caradoc Pritchard wrote a Welsh novel called Un Noson Oleu Leuad (rough trans One Moonlit Evening) which is based on Bethesda and, as you can imagine, has a number of fictional charcters. However, it was widely believed that these characters had roots in real live people living in Bethesda and a Mr John Elwyn Hughes, a renowned authority on Bethesda matters has written a book called Byd Go Iawn Un Noson Oleu Leuad (rough trans The real World of etc)
He has a chapter on the Schoolmaster (called Preis Sgwl in the novel) which he says is Thomas Jervis born 1858 in Penisarwaen.
He moved to Bethesda from Pensarn, Anglesey where he had been a teacher since 1877. He married Eliza  on 4th August 1882 (in Anglesey I think) and the book list their children including Robert who was killed in France on 20th January 1920. There is a moving scene where the local Rector calls in at the School to inform him of his sons death.

Looking on the 1871 Census Thomas Jervis aged 14 Scholar (Pupil Teacher) at Commercial Inn looks good to me. He is not there in 1861 but one of the right age and born Llanddeiniolen is shown as a grandson to Robert Williams, shoemaker at Caeathro, Llanrug parish (can't decide whether this is the area Caeathro or a house called Caeathro) which seems to be the family you refer to in the last post.

Gwil,

Yes, this is the same family!
I have found Thomas 1858 in 1861 living Dinorwic Arms, Llanddeiniolen, parents Thomas and Jane.
1871 Commercial Inn, 1881 School House, Llaneilian, Angelsey, 1891 Llanllechid, 1901 Gerlan Schools, Bethesda.

His grandparents Robert and Catherine Williams, nee Griffith, were my gt.gt.grandparents, Robert was a master shoemaker.

I don't have information on all of Robert and Catherine's descendants: three of their children went to Australia, my gt.grandmother being one, and her story is a very interesting one!

If you are able to give me any more information I would be most grateful.

Diolch,

Hmm, yes I see the one on 1861 that you refer to at Dinorwig Arms. Strange that he seems to be also registered with his grandparents as well. Happened often I suppose. ( I started comparing the Jervis/Jarvis through the census years but got bogged down)

I have no further info other than the existence of the book I refered to. I could see nothing regarding Robert Williams side of things. so if it turns out there were two Thomas Jervis/Jarvis born around 1857/8 in Llanddeiniolen then the one in the book could be either.
