sorry, thought you meant 1861 in Scotland, married down here then back to Scotland. . .ahh just seen the other flaw in that - if she was married it would be Jones not Eastop.  My excuse is I'm tired - been up too long!!  Think I need to go through it in the morning when my brain is working.

Thanks
mary

and a P.S., think I need to find out when she got married if I can, or at least have a guess from the birth year of the 1st child.  :-[

Hi

You really are tired aren't you?  Suggest you print off all replies and go through them that way rather than on screen - might be easier

I have already given you her marriage details in my first reply

A copy of their marriage cert will give her fathers name and occupation

Looked for the name on the 1851 census and got these individual records which may be the one family.

1851 EASTOP THOMAS Male 21yrs GLASGOW GLASGOW/LANARK

1851 EASTOP JANNETT Female 21yrs GLASGOW GLASGOW/LANARK

1851 EASTOP ELIZABETH Female 2yrs GLASGOW GLASGOW/LANARK

Hi sancti,
Thanks for that info, I've been doing another link so have been pretty tied up with it.  I have Margaret on the 1881 census (married with children) being 29 which would make her birth 1852ish, I do remember Mum and Gran years (many!!) ago talking about a Thomas Eastop as well so that could easily be her brother (Margaret was having children when her eldest was having them as well) or even her father.  Interestingly Margaret called 1 daughter Amelia Janet (known as Janet) and 1 Elizabeth.  Have ordered marriage cert so hopefully it will arrive soon and give parents names.  I guess if it was 1 family it could be parents and older sister.  Hope cert hurries up!

Many thanks,

Mary

Have you tried viewing the record on SP? It is a lot cheaper than ordering the cert.

Hi!

I found your posts re: the Eastops and jones by chance and Margaret Eastop & Owen Henry Jones are my GG Grandparents on my mother's side.  From reading your posts I think one of your mother's relatives, (cousin or brother maybe), did a lot of research back in the 1970's.   I have his information which he sent to my late grandfather who was the son of Margaret and Owen's daughter Harriet born 1903 died 1955.  I've tried to attach the copy of the family tree and photos with Margaret and family in, but even just sending one my file is too large.  I'll try to work out how to make it smaller!

In the meantime-Margaret Eastop b29.8.1851 Anniesland Glasgow, married 12.9.1869 Shoreditch, died 7.2.1929 Belvedere, Kent.  Her husband, b 6.12.1847, Thornham? Norfolk, died 1934 Belvedere, Kent.

Margaret's parents were Thomas Eastop b around 1830 prob Glasgow married  31.12.1850 Glasgow, died 17.01.1906 Shoreditch, occ iron moulder.  His wife was Janet Macaulay or McAulay b 24.02.1830 Govan, Glasgow. Died 22.01.1868 Hackney.

Thomas Eastop's father was called James died by 1869 no further details on the Eastops.

Janet Macaulay or McAulay's father was Alexander Macaulay b. 21.8.1802 Govan.  Married before 1824 Govan Glasgow and was still alive in 1839.  Janet's mother was Elizabeth Scott b 20.9.1803 Govan alive in 1839.

Alexander's father was Andrew McAulay a labourer who married Janet Hamilton on 12.2.1794.

Elizabeth Scott's father was Andrew Scott a weaver who married Jane Robertson on 11.9.1798.

When you've confirmed you've got this message , if you are interested I'll see what else I've got.  Rev Richard Jones' descendents were one John Jones and Hannah Goodwin.  Your/my relative strongly suspected that the Goodwins were related to Bishop Goodwin and that we were related to the Bishop's brother a 'gentleman'.  I  have more on that stored somewhere and some pictures of them too.  If this is correct that would be a picture of our something like 12x great grandfather.

In any case, I am grateful to that relative for firmly establishing as much as he has-it must have taken a great deal of effort, travel and expense 30 odd years ago!  I'm sure by now he may have more-I'll ask my parents who are in touch.

Did you have much success since your last post in May?

Regards,

Rina

Hi Rina
what a lot of info you have!!  We went to Ruthin last year to find Owens birth and his parents, but couldn't find Richards parents!!  Shame we didn't have contact before!!  They are also my GGparents on Mum's side - Elizabeth.  I also have contact with 2nd? cousin from Gertie who has been doing some family stuff as well, and another who is related to (I think) Joseph William Jones.  Mum always said we had a famous rev in the family who she thought had been a missionary, we thought maybe this had been Richard - she also used to say we were related to Lord Macauley (the poet) which is something 2nd cousin also 'knew' about, but with no real info.  Unfortunately his Mum has passed away and mine now has dementia so we can't get accurate info anymore.  If only we'd listened to all the family stories Granny used to talk about!!!!!
Would love to meet up and exchange info with you, although I don't think I'd have anything you don't!!
Brilliant!!

Mary
