Eastop family
« on: Saturday 29 March 08 21:48 GMT (UK) »
Hi all
I am looking for the family (parents and siblings) of Margaret Eastop born Glasgow c1851 and moved 'south' at sometime.  Married Owen Jones and spent most of her married life in Belvedere Kent.  Owen was an engineer and Margaret had 11 children.

Can anyone help??? :)

Hi

A copy of their marriage cert will give her fathers name and occupation

September qtr 1869 Shoreditch Volume 1C Page 385

There is an 1861 Scottish entry for a Margaret b 1851 Glasgow - parents Alexander & Jessie.  However - she is still with them in 1871

IGI (www.familysearch.org) search from 1846 to 1856 - brings up only 2 Margaret Eastops.

Born 06 March 1855 in Tradeston Glasgow. to Charles Eastop and Jane Malcolm. and to the same couple another Margaret 10 Oct 1867.   You'll have to double check with CaroleW's info.  All children to this couple born in the same parish.

If the correct parents - it's an unusual name - I've posted you the 9 children by pm.  Too tired to sort them out in order.  However - if you repost in order - I'm sure those with census info may be able to help.  Also some of the names are 'doubles' meaning an earlier sibling had usually died.

If the above 1855 is your Margaret - you 'must' download her birth entry from www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk -a ppv site  1855 is the year on which most info was on birth certs in Scotland.

Off to zzzzzzzzzzzzzz   :O)

Hi

I discounted the 1855 Margaret as the marriage was 1869

Thanks everyone, especially Carole, I think the Alexander one is 'mine' as she was is Shoreditch for the first couple of children,, and maybe the others as well.  Thats brilliant thankyou - we had no idea of her parents name or definate year of marriage so that has given us something to 'aim' for. :) ;D ;D

I don't think so - see my reply above

As your Margaret married in Shoreditch in 1869 - it cannot be the right parents

The only sure way is to buy a copy of her marriage cert to establish a fathers name and occupation

Ahh, I can see the flaw in that. Weird though if 2 Margarets came from Scotland to Shoreditch area, will have a look at that wedding cert - maybe she took 1st child to see grandparents (she says clutching at straws). they did go back to Mums sometimes to have the children - or Mums came to look after them, thats how my Granny met her husband - had to look after sister when having child as their Mum (Margaret nee Eastop) was also having a child and couldn't go.  Its got to be worth looking into.  Thanks :)
