Hi Rina

When I used to go on Roots a lot last year there was a bit where you could send personal messages (and therefore e mail addresses) without everyone seeing it - do you know f they still do it?  Can't find it on this bit.
Have just spoken to 2nd cousin who said he remembers Harriet & Ted's family.  Are you related to Will, Maggie, Dolly (Edith), Robbie or Charley?.
Can you remember the name of the person who did all the research before, or which bit of the family he came from?

We have a couple of pics of Owen & Margaret taken at Belvedere in the garden, we went to see 'the old house' a couple of years ago, did you know it was a 'back-to-back house?  We didn't.  The chap who owns it was researching the history of the house so we sent him some copies of the pics we had.

Hi  Mary!

I didn't expect such a quick reply!  Yes, I'm trying to work out the personal message bit but TBH I'm not finding the site v. easy to use so far.  There is something in the personal message instructions about needing to send or post 3 messages before you can send a personal one.  Not sure but I'm trying to think round this.  Maybe if nec. to create Flickr/Facebook or similar.  What UK area do you live in?  I'm south west London.  I have photos of my mum's photos and grandad's documents which he's saved from your relative.

The photo I have of Margaret is probably the same-there's 13 people in the photo-little Ethel is on Margaret's lap.  Our relatives are either side of their brother Owen.  Elizabeth is second from right at the back. My Great Grandma Harriett is third from left at the back.  If it's the same photo I can give you the other names. I didn't know where it was taken so thank you for that.  My grandfather was Will, (my Mum's dad).  His proper name was Edward William Owen Brockman and his wife was Violet nee Shelton.  Sadly they died late 70's and early 80's.  Charlie died in the 70's I did meet him a few times-a lovely man.  His wife is still in touch with my Mum.  Of course my mum remembers them all much better than me as she knew them all well.  Auntie Maggie had a farm in Kent near Silverstone- I remember camping there as a child.  I think Rob ran a post office in Dartford as some point-family legend has it that schoolboy Mick Jagger and friends practiced their music in his shed!!  But enough of that for now!

Do you know if Margaret and your Elizabeth's husbands were related?  The relative who did all the research is related to one of them but not sure which.  His name is Alan and my Mum was in touch with him in 2002.

I'll reply to the Richard Jones post separately.

Rina

Hi Rina and Mary

Rina, you just need to do one more post here on the main forum and you can use the PM service  :)

A quick and easy way to access the PM service is to click on either of your green scrolls which show under your names on the left hand side of posts. This will take you straight through to the PM screen. Works very much like an email account with in/outboxes. You can also click on someone's user name (also on the l/hand side) on their posts to take you to their personal profile which includes a link to the PM service.

If you look at the very top of the screen, you will see: Welcome back xxx, you have xx messages, x are new. Clicking on that takes you through to your own PMs.

Good luck with your research  :)

Monica

Re: Richard JONES!

Here are the details which I have, (courtesy of our relative via my grandfather).  Richard JONES M.A. (Oxon) b 1757 married 7.11.1754 died 23.4.1814.  Rector of Llanychan nr. Ruthin.  Wife Grace JONES b 1761/2 buried at Llanychan 27.10.1826.

Richard's father was apparently one Richard JONES but I don't have birth/death dates.  I do have a title beneath but it's all handwritten and I'm not sure what this means.  Looks like corvirct of Ruthin.  His wife is marked as Mary JONES.  That Richard JONES', (corvirct?!) father is recorded sa John JONES and his wife is Hannah GOODMAN.  (NOT Goodwin as I previously said)

I have a separate handwritten record of the GOODMANs, (that is to say that I have photos of original copies).    This shows the father of Hannah GOODMAN as Richard GOODMAN, (I think 'only son' is written beneath), married to a Jane HUGHS  (that's how it's spelt).

Richard's father is Syman GOODMAN (handwritten beneath poss 'eldest son' ?). Married to Alis ?

Syman's father is John GOODMAN 'Eldest son', looks like 'virginal maker' !!  'alive in 1455'  married to Ann?

John's father is Godfrey GOODMAN 'Second Son  Priest 1587 Alive in 1455' married to Alis? 'daugher of Hugh'

Godfrey's father is Gowan GOODMAN 1526 to 1604 of Ruthin, Gentleman  married to Ellin GRIFFITH daughter of Thomas

Gowan's father was Edward GOODMAN 1477 to 22May 1560. Writing hard to read here but looks like 'Mercet, Bangis of Ruthin.  Married to Cecily THEWALL 1494 to 4 Jan 158? 3/4

Edwards father was Thomas GOODMAN of Mault (?)

Cecilys father was Edward THEWALL married to Catherine ?

Gowan GOODMAN 1526 to 1604 (father to Godfrey), had a brother called Gabriel GOODMAN 1529 to 1601 Dean of Westminster aand another brother called Godfrey GOODMAN married to Jane CRUXTON (2nd wife).  Their son was also called Godfrey GOODMAN 1583 to 1656, unmarried, Bishop of Gloucester.

Of course I have not confirmed any of this myself although I do know that the relative regularly wrote to my Grandfather to tell him of his travels and progress.

Re: the Macauley's.  Firstly I think Margaret had a sister who might have moved to Canada.  I remember as a teenager her granddaugher wrote to me but sadly the correspondance fizzled out, (due to my exam revision).  I have her letters somewhere in the loft!

Also re: the poet Thomas Macauley, I have also heard this tale.  It appears that everybody of my grandfathers generation was told this!  There is some sort of mystery arising from some pages torn out of the family bible by my great great grandfather. A letter from my grandfather on the subject says 'it was destroyed in jealously' of his wife's family heritage but that so far nobody had proved the link.  And that only the original owners name 'A&E Macauley' remain written in gold.  Hmmmmm

I've just discovered more photocopied docs!

Bye for now!

Rina
