Program to tell time in other locations? Downloadable freebie?
« on: Saturday 29 March 08 03:29 GMT (UK) »

Does anyone know the name and/or url of a freebie, downloadable program that tells the time in locations other than where one lives?

I make overseas phone calls, and whilst I can find the time at the o/seas destination by going online and checking, it would be simpler to be able to do it on the pc instead of online.

Any ideas anyone?

thanks,
charlotte

Hi Charlotte.

As you didn't say from where to where was easier to say google that way you can choose the countries.

Googling produced a little program called Time Zone Clock that seems to meet what's needed.
There were quite a few freebies there it seems.

This may not be what you want, but http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock shows world times online, (about 140 world locations are shown on the main page) and can be customised for anyone individually.

It MAY even have something that can be set up on a PC whilst offline, although I haven't looked into that.

Common - Halifax, Yorkshire & Scotland Common One Name Interests
Clegg - Yorkshire
Barber - Ashton Under Lyne, Cheshire/Lancashire

Whitley - Yorkshire

Assuming that you are running Windoze, it's just a simple matter to right click on the time in your systems tray, then go to <adjust time/date> then and select the area you need. Then just reverse back to your local time zone when you have the information you need.

I deal with two or three different time zones which I so far have the mental ability to retain but it does get a bit confusing at daylight saving time and that's when I tend to revert to the above suggestion.

It just saves another bit of software on the pc to go wrong.

Alan, You're a cheery soul about things going wrong on the pc- but you are quite correct. When the pc is good it's very good but when it goes into a bad mood it's really grim.

Thanks for the idea of all that clicking but given my brain I think I'd put the whole thing into a spin. The beauty of the little program, Time Zone Clock, I found is that it chugs along when offline which suits me fine. It's very basic but that fits in well with eveything else around.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and help.

Hi there,
Chorlton has a good one.

Another that is good is http://www.whitepages.com.au/wp/helpfulInfo.do?category=info&item=worldTime .

As far as I know this should work from any where in the world. It seems to when I pretend to be in UK :) It also give a printable comparison to keep at your desk :D

Cheers
